WILSON, WES. Mindbenders, San Francisco, 1967.

About 14x20 inches, second printing, made for the Bill Graham concert featuring the Mindbenders and the Chocolate Watch Band at the Fillmore Theater in San Francisco, July 8 and 9, 1966. The first printing gave credit to Wilson, this second printing gave no credit whatsoever, and the third misspelled his name. (This was done in the Sixties, after all.) Wilson, a pioneer of psychedelic graphics, did the Graham posters until 1967, when he left in a money dispute. According to Therese Heyman's "Posters American Style," "Wilson's early work was unique, but by mid-1967, so many artists had copied his style that he was easily replaced [p. 175]." Two months after he did this poster, Wilson was replaced by Bonnie MacLean and others.
