AIWA AD-WX220F Vintage Double Cassette Deck Dolby B C ALL-TRAC Serviced

Discover the distinctive AIWA AD-WX220F, a Japanese-made double cassette deck from the early 1980s. Its bronze-toned finish, colourful controls and sloping console give it an unmistakable appearance that stands out in any vintage Hi-Fi collection.

The AD-WX220 dates from 1983 and combines cassette playback, recording and advanced tape-copying facilities. This is the European AD-WX220F version, with a rear identification plate specifying 220 V AC, 50/60 Hz and 25 W power consumption.

Deck I is dedicated to playback, while Deck II handles recording and playback. The two transports provide a convenient arrangement for enjoying your cassette collection and making recordings from tapes or an external audio source.

One of its most interesting features is AIWA’s ALL-TRAC dubbing system, which allows both sides of a cassette to be copied simultaneously. Combined with double-speed dubbing, this can reduce the copying time of a C90 cassette to approximately 22½ minutes.

Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction are provided, with separate selection for each deck. The unit accommodates Normal, CrO₂ and Metal tapes, while the front-panel bias fine adjustment helps optimise recordings with Normal and CrO₂ formulations.

Specified frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 16 kHz with Normal tape, 20 Hz to 17 kHz with CrO₂ tape and 20 Hz to 18 kHz with Metal tape. Manufacturer-rated wow and flutter is below 0.038% WRMS, with tape speeds of approximately 4.8 cm/s and 9.5 cm/s for high-speed dubbing.

The ten-selection random programming system and music sensor offer flexible track selection. Other practical features include recording mute, a tape counter, a peak-level display and conveniently positioned transport controls.

The console provides sliding controls for recording, microphone and output levels. A headphone socket with adjustable volume and a microphone input are located on the front, while rear RCA line inputs and outputs allow connection to a suitable Hi-Fi system.

Dimensions are approximately 420 × 110 × 317 mm, measured as width × height × depth, and net weight is approximately 5.6 kg. This unit is labelled for 220 V operation; buyers using 110/120 V mains will require a suitable external step-up transformer.

This unit has been professionally inspected and serviced by our specialised technicians and is in perfect working order. It retains an attractive vintage appearance, with visible age-related marks, scratches and wear to some edges and side areas. Please enlarge all photographs to examine its cosmetic condition. A further preventive inspection and functional test will be carried out before dispatch.
