The Chicago and North Western Railway (C&NW) built the original railroad line and depot in Friendship, Wisconsin.

When the railway expanded into Adams County in 1911, land speculators forced the company to build its division yards about a mile south of the original village center. The station originally carried the sign "Friendship," which was later changed to "South Friendship". As a new community rapidly developed around the railroad yards, it broke away to become the city of Adams in 1912, and the structure was officially renamed the Adams Depot
