ANGLETERRE / Warwicum, Northhamtonia, Huntingdonia, Cantabrigia, Suffolcia, Oxonium, Buckinghamia, Bedfordia, Hartfordia, Essexia, Berceria, Middelsexia, Southantonia, Surria, Cantium et Southsexia – an iconic and extremely rare original antique hand-coloured map of south-east England, created by Gerardus Mercator, engraved by Petrus Kaerius and published by Johannes Cloppenburgh in Amsterdam in 1630. The map shows the counties of south-east England by colour, and also London, the River Thames, other rivers and towns, as well as the English Channel (Oceanus Britannicus). On the right side is a decorative title cartouche. The map is evenly age-darkened, with original colours remaining very good, vivid and appealing, as shown. French text is on the reverse. It measures approximately 11 x 8 inches / 27.5 x 21 cm. A very good example of this iconic map by Gerardus Mercator, for collectors.
