ASCENSION GVI 1938/53 ERROR! "Cut Mast and Railings" on 1½d Black and Carmine stamp. Perf 14.
Fine mint.
As well as SG references, I have also referenced the very helpful and colourful "South African Collectors' Society" website.
The flaw can be seen easily in the centre of the stamp on the quay (under the "S").
The mast is bisected by a black element on the right not far from the base. The railings further to the right has a black line extending from the railing to the quay edge. Image 2.
The stamp is perf 14.
Monitors and screens differ widely - my screen shows this to be a decent, faithful representaion of the shade and was photographed in daylight.
SG40 eb. SG Catalogue guide £450.
The stamp has marks where hinged - but no thins, tears or toning.
I have
had a quick look around ebay and I actually could not find a similar stamp with shade and variety.
Also, have you noticed how many sellers never show the
reverse of the stamps - no idea why as it forms part of the decision making
process regarding condition as well as watermark identification. As a collector
I find this quite frustrating having to ask; many oblige, some don't. I always
try to show the reverse...warts and all!
A super example showing this variety in a difficult shade.
