Signs that your regulator needs replacing:
Depending on the location of the regulator rectifier, the part can easily overheat. Other causes for a dead regulator rectifier center on the battery. Ground connections are important for good voltage, and if there is a faulty voltage, the regulator rectifier can run hot. Bad grounding, corroded battery connection and poor or loose battery connections will cause faulty voltage too.

There are generally two ways for the regulator rectifier to fail:
The first deals with diode burnout, resulting in battery drain. It is easy to assume that the issue is a bad battery because of symptoms such as dimming headlights and poor starts. Checking the voltage with a voltmeter versus relying on symptoms alone will prove highly beneficial. If the voltage drops below 13 volts, the motorcycle will begin to drain the battery and eventually the engine will stop. Check for bad connections and corrosion; these can also cause voltage issues.
The other failure type is shunt regulator burnout, where the regulator rectifier fails to control the voltage, resulting in battery overcharge. Again, a voltmeter will be useful for diagnosis. Though generally, readings above 17 volts mean the regulator rectifier is not converting the excess power correctly and all of that excess voltage may cause the headlights to become extremely bright and then blow.

Segnali che indicano la necessità di sostituire il regolatore:
A seconda della posizione del regolatore raddrizzatore, il componente può surriscaldarsi facilmente. Altre cause di guasto del regolatore raddrizzatore sono la batteria. I collegamenti a massa sono importanti per una buona tensione e, in caso di tensione difettosa, il regolatore raddrizzatore può surriscaldarsi. Anche una messa a terra difettosa, un collegamento della batteria corroso e collegamenti della batteria scadenti o allentati possono causare tensioni difettose.

Ci sono generalmente due modi in cui il regolatore raddrizzatore si guasta:
Il primo riguarda la bruciatura dei diodi, che causa il consumo della batteria. È facile supporre che il problema sia dovuto a una batteria scarica a causa di sintomi come l'oscuramento dei fari e le difficoltà di avviamento. Controllare la tensione con un voltmetro, invece di affidarsi solo ai sintomi, si rivelerà estremamente utile. Se la tensione scende sotto i 13 volt, la motocicletta inizierà a scaricare la batteria e alla fine il motore si spegnerà. Verificare la presenza di collegamenti difettosi e corrosione; anche questi possono causare problemi di tensione.
L'altro tipo di guasto è la bruciatura del regolatore di derivazione, in cui il raddrizzatore del regolatore non riesce a controllare la tensione, con conseguente sovraccarico della batteria. Anche in questo caso, un voltmetro sarà utile per la diagnosi. Tuttavia, in genere, letture superiori a 17 volt indicano che il raddrizzatore del regolatore non converte correttamente la potenza in eccesso e tutta quella tensione in eccesso può causare un'eccessiva intensità luminosa dei fari e la loro successiva rottura.
