This was a dumpster save from an old farmhouse clean out I stumbled upon during a day of Iowa country driving. Very cool and extremely rare to have it never opened!
This is a vintage Snap-a-tray by Paul Hess Products of Chicago, in its original cardboard box. The box says "for Home, for Boat, for Car" and "Completely adjustable for height and angle. Can be used facing front or back." It is a collapsible all-purpose tray. The box has a red directions label: "Hang flat 'J' arms over back or front of car seat" and details on adjusting the serrated hook bar and the spring clip holder.
The box also carries a Montgomery Ward mailing label and postage stamps from St. Paul, Minnesota. It is stamped "M.W. 8170" on the side. This is likely an old Montgomery Ward mail-order shipment.
Markings: "Paul Hess Products, Chicago, Ill.," "Snap-a-Tray," "Patent Pending," "Chicago 22, Ill."
A great addition for collectors of vintage car accessories, mid-century items, Montgomery Ward, Paul Hess, advertising boxes, camping and boating items, and vintage kitchen and TV trays.
