Description
A striking, highly substantial statement piece, this vintage Mottahedeh Monteith bowl is crafted from heavy solid brass and finished in a rich, warmly aged gold patina. Its gracefully scalloped rim and sculptural fluted body are complemented by two loose-swinging handles that drape elegantly along the sides. A sturdy pedestal base gives the bowl a handsome, grounded presence.

Monteith bowls were traditionally used to chill wine glasses. Today, this impressive piece brings a touch of classic elegance to a dining table or console, and can also be displayed as a fruit bowl or planter/cachepot.

The original “Mottahedeh” and “Made in India” stamps are present on the bottom.

This is an authentic, hand-cast, and hand-assembled artisan piece exhibiting charming historical irregularities that prove its vintage, non-machine-stamped origin:
* Base & Stability: The bowl sits completely flat, sturdy, and solid on a tabletop with no wobbling.
* Production Variations: It features a slight natural tilt from its original assembly, measuring 9¾” high on one side and 9½” on the other. The rim is organically shaped rather than a perfect circle, measuring 13” at its narrowest diameter and 13¾” at its widest.
* Surface Finish: The beautiful original finish has natural tarnish and a deep patina left entirely intact.
* Pitting & Wear: There are a few rough, dark pitted corrosion spots located on the neck of the pedestal base (clearly documented in the close-up photos). These are stable, cosmetic age blemishes that cannot be polished out and do not affect the structural integrity of the heavy brass casting.
