A genuine piece of WWII history you can hold in your hands!
Offered here is an authentic 1942 Japanese Government 1 Rupee banknote issued for Japanese-occupied Burma/Myanmar during World War II.

The Japanese occupation government issued its own currency to replace the existing monetary system and finance economic activity within the occupied territory.
Unlike ordinary postwar collectible currency, this note was actually created as part of the Japanese wartime occupation system. Every surviving example is a tangible reminder of one of the most dramatic periods in 20th-century history.
The note features the striking inscription:
“THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT”
“ONE RUPEE”
The elaborate green engraving includes a breadfruit tree and tropical foliage on the left and the famous Ananda Temple of Bagan on the right.
The bottom of the note contains Japanese characters identifying the Japanese government, making this an especially interesting piece for collectors of Japanese militaria, WWII memorabilia, Asian currency, and world banknotes.
This example bears the BD block designation, a variety recognized by world-paper-money collectors. The 1 Rupee denomination measures approximately 140 × 67 mm and was part of the Japanese Government's 1942 Burma/Myanmar currency issue.

Consequences Of Violating Japanese Occupation Currency Laws
During the Japanese occupation of WWII, using or possessing currency that had been prohibited or replaced by Japanese occupation money could be treated as a serious offense rather than simply a monetary violation. Depending on the circumstances, civilians caught using unauthorized currency could face confiscation, arrest, interrogation, imprisonment, severe physical punishment, or even execution, particularly if Japanese authorities suspected the money was connected to resistance movements or aiding the enemy. The occupation currency therefore represented more than just money—it was a tool of military control, and being caught defying that system could have potentially life-threatening consequences.
Imagine this note changing hands in Burma during the height of World War II, while Japanese and Allied forces fought across Southeast Asia.
Today, it is no longer money—it is a surviving artifact of the Japanese occupation and the global conflict that shaped the modern world.
Whether you're a collector of WWII memorabilia, Japanese militaria, Japanese occupation currency, Burma/Myanmar history, world banknotes, or historical paper money, this is an inexpensive and highly displayable way to add an authentic wartime artifact to your collection.
