Offered for sale is an original Elizabeth II Regular Army Long Service and Good Conduct (LS&GC) medal, complete with the original set of issue identity tags, awarded to 24110459 Staff Sergeant S. E. Wilkins of the Royal Tank Regiment. This solitary medal entitlement represents a classic Cold War military career, spanning approximately 1969 to 1990. During this era, the recipient would have primarily served in West Germany with the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR), likely crewing main battle tanks. Earning this medal required 15 years of unblemished service, and its status as a single entitlement indicates he completed his full career without deploying to active operational zones such as Northern Ireland.
Accompanying the medal is the soldier's original pair of circular aluminium dog tags on their issue ball chain. The tags are clearly stamped with his service number, surname, initials, and religion (CE for Church of England), while the reverse sides are stamped with his blood group, O POS. The medal itself is correctly and officially impressed on the rim with his service number, rank, initials, surname, and regiment.
In terms of condition, the medal remains in excellent, highly collectable shape. The planchet shows a pleasing, even finish with only very minor surface marks consistent with age and careful handling. The rim details remain crisp, sharp, and entirely legible. It is fitted with a clean length of original ribbon that features a pin-back suspension bar and a patch of Velcro on the reverse, in "court mounted" fashion. The accompanying dog tags exhibit honest wear, edge rubbing, and surface scratching typical of daily field use, which adds fantastic provenance and character to the grouping.
