The collection features illustrations by Maurice Sendak, who also co-selected the stories to highlight lesser-known, haunting narratives alongside classics like Hansel and Gretel. 

Key tales include The Juniper Tree, Brother and Sister, and Many-Fur, offering a mature exploration of family dysfunction, murder, and supernatural justice.
