Van has small oil leak, been like this since purchasing.

About 12 months ago when accelerating hard in first gear the temp gauge would shoot up bring red light on gauge and cut engine out briefly then carry on as normal, advised this is a common fault due to switch on clutch pedal, swapped for another second hand switch but still the same, no engine management light on, haven't looked into this any further.
