David Bird is a British Armed Forces veteran whose military career spanned more than 22 years, including service with the Special Air Service in Northern Ireland. His story forms part of the later history of Britain’s special forces, following the wartime generation of David Stirling and Paddy Mayne. The Veterans’ Foundation records that he was awarded the Military Medal in 1988 for gallantry during his service.
