Up for sale is a wonderfully characterful, handcrafted studio pottery face vessel. Standing at approximately 10cm (4 inches) tall, this piece features an applied, hand-sculpted face with whimsical teeth, cartoonish eyes, a textured nose, and a row of applied buttons down the front. One hand hooks down to hold a sculpted sack or bag by its side.
Features & Craftsmanship:
- Technique: Initially wheel-thrown with hand-sculpted applique features added afterward. The base shows distinctive wire cutoff marks and concentric throw rings.
- Material: Heavy, textured stoneware body with visible grog.
- Glaze: Off-white matte glaze allowing the dark, iron-rich stoneware clay to show through beautifully on the high points, giving it an earthy, rustic look.
- Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. (Please review photos for full detail).
- Markings: Unsigned / no maker's mark on the base.
Styled in the manner of vintage 1970s Scandinavian modernism, reminiscent of naive Danish studio works by artists like Gunner Michael Andersen or Dybdahl Pottery.
