This original, Postally Used, Confederate Cover measures approx. 5 1/2" by 3" and has an imperforate, Jefferson Davis, 10 cent Postage Stamp (CSA #12-AD) at the upper right hand corner of the front panel. The Stamp is tied by an Atlanta, Georgia handstamp postmark dated June 3rd, (no year). The Envelope is addressed to “Mrs Cornelia Cole” at Sheffield, Alabama. The Envelope was opened at the bottom edge resulting in some very minor damage as can be seen in the scans below.

    The Cover came to us as part of a simply fantastic collection of Confederate States of America Covers that was put together in early to late 20th century. We have been offering the Covers from this collection over the past few months and the example being offered here is among the last of that collection.

    The very rare and original, 1860’s Confederate States of America, Postally Used Cover is in very good condition. The front panel of the Cover has some age toning and soiling as can be seen in the scans below. The Stamp is well preserved but roughly torn at ball edges as can also be seen in the scans below. As stated above, the Envelope was opened at the bottom edge with some resulting, light damage.
