The game is set on a group of islands in a vast sea—a first for the series. The player controls series protagonist Link as he attempts to save his sister from the sorcerer Ganon and becomes embroiled in a struggle for the Triforce, a sacred relic that grants its holder's wishes. Aided by allies including pirate captain Tetra and a talking boat named the King of Red Lions, Link sails the ocean, explores islands, and traverses dungeons to acquire the power necessary to defeat Ganon. Wind, which facilitates sailing, plays a prominent role, and can be controlled with a magic conductor's baton called the Wind Waker.

The Wind Waker was directed by Eiji Aonuma and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka.

According to The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, Nintendo's official Legend of Zelda chronology, The Wind Waker takes place in the "New World" timeline, one of several parallel timelines in which Zelda games are set following the events of Ocarina of Time. The game follows the "Adult Link" sequence from Ocarina, after Link, the "Hero of Time", defeats Ganon and time-travels back to his childhood. A crisis emerged when Ganon returned, but Link did not. Centuries later, the people live on islands in the Great Sea. They preserve Link's story as a legend, but his kingdom's fate is unknown. The main character, a young boy also named Link, lives on Outset Island, where boys dress in green like the Hero of Time when they come of age.

Miniblins are recurring enemies in the Legend of Zelda series. The smallest members of the Goblin race, they are quite harmless on their own. They almost always gang up on Link in an attempt to overrun him, however, which can be fairly dangerous. Miniblins wield small pitchforks as weapons, which can be problematic if Link has climbed to a high altitude due to the knockback they cause. Miniblins emit a characteristic sound and come in a variety of colors. Typically, they are represented as pirates, sailing in wooden viking longships with grey turrets on top. Their "boss" ships are generally larger, and feature sails with a stylized Miniblin skull on it. Miniblins appear to be the most technologically adept of the Goblin races, due to their ability to build various vehicles and a turret-adorned hideout.

Netflix 'The Legend Of Zelda' Live-Action Series Was Canceled Because Of Leaks

Back in 2015, word started going around that Netflix was planning a Legend of Zelda live-action series. However, as soon as we learned of the series, it was reported that Nintendo had pulled the plug. So what happened? As it turns out, Nintendo got antsy about word of the show leaking out and decided they didn't want to move forward after all – which seems like a strange reason, all things considered.

The confirmation of why Netflix and Nintendo canceled the live-action The Legend of Zelda TV series comes from Adam Conover (via Collider). During an appearance on The Serf Times podcast, Conover talked about how he was working on a different Nintendo property – a claymation Star Fox adaptation. However, both Star Fox and Legend of Zelda got shut down after word of Zelda leaked to the Wall Street Journal.

"Then, a month later, suddenly there were reports Netflix wasn't going to do its Legend of Zelda anymore," Conover said. "I was like 'what happened?' And then I heard from my boss we weren't doing our Star Fox anymore. I was like 'what happened?' He was like, 'someone at Netflix leaked the Legend of Zelda thing, they weren't supposed to talk about it, Nintendo freaked out... and they pulled the plug on everything, the entire program to adapt these things."

I'm not entirely sure why Nintendo would be so freaked out about a story leak that they'd pull the plug entirely, but hey, that's their prerogative. That said, Nintendo hasn't had the best luck when it comes to live-action adaptations of their properties, so maybe they just got cold feet. The Legend of Zelda remains a wildly popular series for Nintendo, and while there was an animated series based on the games that ran in 1989, there have been no live-action adaptations, although you have to figure a live-action adaptation is bound to get people interested. Will Nintendo ever try to adapt Zelda again, be it live-action or some other medium? There's an animated Super Mario Bros. movie due out in 2022, and perhaps Nintendo is waiting to see how audiences react to that before moving forward with adaptations of other games.
