A lovely antique Buren Swiss manual-wind wristwatch, housed in a solid 925 sterling silver case and dating to 1925.

The inside caseback carries British import hallmarks including 925 sterling silver, the W.H.S. importer/sponsor mark, the Glasgow import assay mark and lowercase “k” date letter for 1925.

Adding a particularly charming piece of history, the outer caseback has been hand engraved:

“FROM IAN
14th DECEMBER
1926”

Presumably given as a gift around a year after the silver case was assayed.

The watch measures approximately 25 x 25mm, excluding crown, and retains its wonderfully aged cream dial with faded Arabic numerals and attractive blued-steel hands. The heavy patina, wear and ageing are very much part of the character of this nearly century-old watch and are shown clearly in the photographs.

Inside is a Buren 12-ligne Swiss hand-wound movement. The watch winds, sets and runs beautifully in basic testing.

Fitted to a later brown leather strap.

Details:

As with any antique mechanical watch, no guarantee is made regarding long-term accuracy, power reserve or water resistance unless specifically stated.

A wonderfully characterful 100-year-old silver Buren, with the bonus of a precisely dated British hallmark and a personal 1926 presentation inscription.
