OLED Display Introduction
OLED (Organic Light‑Emitting Diode), also known as organic electroluminescent display, features self‑illumination. It uses thin organic material coatings and glass substrates. The organic materials emit light when electric current passes through them. OLED delivers a wide viewing angle and low power consumption.
Benefiting from self‑emission, no backlight requirement (the screen will not light up merely by power‑on; correct wiring and driver firmware are required for activation), high contrast, slim thickness, wide viewing angle, fast response speed, flexible panel compatibility, broad operating temperature range and simple structure & manufacturing process, OLED performs excellently.
Traditional 12864 screens are LCD type which require backlight and consume more power. OLED features lower power consumption and is better suited for small‑scale systems. Thanks to different luminescent materials, OLED achieves superior visual performance under various environments.
This module works with both 3.3V and 5V power supply without circuit modification. Multiple control commands are available to adjust brightness, contrast, boost circuit switching and more. Easy‑to‑operate and feature‑rich, it supports displaying Chinese characters, ASCII characters and graphics. Four M3 mounting holes are reserved for convenient installation onto enclosures.
Tip
Wire correctly! Reversed positive/negative power supply will burn out electronic components.
This display module does not include an on‑board character library chip. Display data shall be generated by image or Chinese‑character dot‑matrix software.

7‑Pin OLED Display
- GND: Power Ground
- VCC: Power Input 3.3V
- D0: SPI clock signal for SPI mode; IIC clock signal for IIC mode
- D1: SPI data signal for SPI mode; IIC data signal for IIC mode
- RES: OLED Reset. A reset pulse is required after power‑up.
- DC: SPI data/command select pin; used for IIC address setting under IIC mode
- CS: SPI Chip Select, active low. Tie to GND if not in use.
4‑Pin OLED Display

- VCC: Power Input (3.3‑5V supply)
- SCL: IIC Clock Line
- SDA: IIC Data Line
Important Note
Unlike LCD screens, OLED is self‑emissive and has no backlight. The screen will show no response when only power is applied. Proper program operation is mandatory for display output.
