3386P Top‑Adjust Potentiometer with Knob Cap. It generally consists of a resistive body and a movable wiper. As the wiper moves along the resistive body, a resistance value or voltage proportional to the displacement is obtained at the output terminal.
The potentiometer can be used either as a three‑terminal component or a two‑terminal component. It is named a potentiometer because its function in the circuit is to generate an output voltage that has a certain proportional relationship with the applied input voltage.
Product Applications
1. As a Voltage Divider
The potentiometer is a continuously adjustable resistor. When adjusting the shaft or slider of the potentiometer, the movable contact slides on the resistive element. An output voltage proportional to the applied voltage and the rotation angle or travel of the wiper can be obtained at the output end.
2. As a Rheostat
When used as a rheostat, the potentiometer is configured as a two‑terminal device. A smoothly and continuously variable resistance value can be achieved within the full travel range of the potentiometer.
3. As a Current Controller
When the potentiometer functions as a current controller, one of the selected current output terminals must be the wiper lead.
