Antique Wire Wrapped Cow Bone Lace Bobbin English * Circa 1840 This
antique cow (bovine) bone* lace bobbin is
an early one,
made by Jesse Compton
(see pp. 23-26 of Christine & David
Springett's Success to the
Lace Pillow). It has
four sections of fine brass wire wrapped around the shank with
connecting wire in diagonal channels between. In between it has dots
and slashes stained in red and black. The top and bottom have thin
bands of red and black. The spangle is made up of antique handmade glass beads. It measures 4 1/2" long and the condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It has a lovely old patina. *This item is made of bone from a domestic cow (bovine) and NOT from an endangered species or an ivory producing species.
