Here's one you don't see — ever. This is genuine DuPont Crolyn chromium dioxide audio tape, in DuPont's own box with the original E.I. du Pont de Nemours Photo Products Department label out of Wilmington, Delaware.
DuPont invented CrO2 tape and licensed the technology to Sony, Philips, BASF, Ampex, and Memorex — which is why virtually all chrome tape you'll ever encounter wears somebody else's name. Actual DuPont-branded Crolyn stock like this almost never turns up. In 25+ years of dealing in vintage tape, this is the first I've had.
What it is: cassette-width (0.150" / 1/8") chromium dioxide tape, 3600 feet, factory-wound on a large-hub 8" reel — duplicator/loading stock from the early 1970s. Hand-labeled L866R-8 on both the box and the reel flange, marked "Audio" on the label.
Condition: New Old Stock, never used. Box shows light storage wear and age toning; the tape itself is clean with an even wind, as photographed.
Who this is for: CrO2 and tape-history collectors, anyone loading their own Type II cassettes with true chrome tape (this reel is roughly four C-90s' worth), or a display piece from the company that started it all.
Ships carefully packed from my smoke-free warehouse in New Jersey.
