Sherlock Holmes is the fictional detective created by Scottish author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, first appearing in A Study in Scarlet in 1887. Living at 221B Baker Street in London with his friend and chronicler Dr John Watson, Holmes is famous for his extraordinary powers of observation, deduction and logical reasoning. He investigates some of literature's most famous mysteries, including The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Adventure of the Speckled Band, frequently encountering his brilliant nemesis Professor Moriarty. Although entirely fictional, Holmes has become one of the most influential characters in detective fiction and has inspired countless films, television series, books and adaptations. A Sherlock Holmes statue celebrates Victorian London, detective fiction, mystery and one of literature's most iconic characters.
