Original antique photographic postcard dating approximately to c. 1905–1915, showing a charming group of five children in Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire.

The children, apparently four girls and one older boy, are posed outdoors in a particularly unusual arrangement. They stand one behind another according to height, forming an attractive stair-step composition, with each older child placing a hand on the shoulder of the child in front.

The youngest child stands at the front, while the oldest boy in uniform and a peaked cap completes the group at the rear.

The children appear likely to be siblings or members of the same family, although their identities are unknown.

An additional adult man can be seen standing in the distance at right, adding an interesting spontaneous detail to the background.

The unusual stair-step arrangement makes this much more distinctive than a conventional period children's group portrait.

The photograph is mounted on an attractive postcard with an unusual decorative shaped photographic border. The reverse retains the original divided postcard layout.
