An antique Ottoman Empire velvet panel with intricate couched metal-wrapped thread embroidery, dating to the early 20th century (post-1903, based on the Prym snaps). The panel is deep brown velvet with gold and silver metallic thread embroidery in floral, paisley, and medallion motifs, accented with ornate borders.

Most striking are the central medallions, which feature stylized Arabic calligraphy motifs. These resemble tughra-inspired forms, with sweeping verticals and curling lines that echo Islamic script. In Ottoman textiles, such motifs were often used for their visual rhythm and symbolic resonance, rather than strict legibility, lending a rich calligraphic aesthetic to ceremonial objects.
