Original antique Ukrainian studio photograph dated 1917, showing a young woman dressed in traditional Ukrainian folk costume.

She is photographed full-length against a painted studio backdrop and wears a traditional white embroidered dress / vyshyvanka, a dark sash around the waist, a headscarf and numerous strands of traditional Ukrainian beads and necklaces.

The lower part of her clothing displays a particularly attractive band of traditional floral embroidery.

The carefully arranged studio composition and detailed folk clothing make this an especially attractive ethnographic portrait from the revolutionary year of 1917.

The reverse is printed as a photographic postcard in Russian, Polish and French:

“Почтовая карточка — Pocztówka — Carte Postale”

A period handwritten inscription on the reverse includes the clearly written date 1917.

The exact photographic studio and location have not been identified. The photograph may possibly originate from Kyiv or the surrounding region, but this attribution has not been confirmed.

Dimensions: 86 × 136 mm (3.39 × 5.35 in)

An attractive original photograph for collectors of Ukrainian history, traditional Ukrainian costume, vyshyvanka, folk jewelry, ethnographic photography and early 20th-century Ukraine.
