From my collection comes this nice classical Song Jian tea bowl with the Hare’s Fur pattern of radiating streaks of black and brown glaze both on the inside and outside of this tea bowl. The iron-rich glaze is flowing downward and has settled inside the bowl slightly unevenly, which suggests the bowl did not sit evenly in the kiln. It features a conical shape resting on a narrow, compact foot ring and with an indented groove or lip just beneath the outer rim (to facilitate drinking from it). The unglazed base showcases a coarse and dense purple-dark clay body. The bowl is remarkably heavy for its modest size (4,2”W and 2,5” H) another indication of its authenticity. A somewhat provincial version of this type of bowl but with the assurance that this is authentic. Condition is very good: with a very small(L 1,5”) restoration to the lip which is very typical for these wares, even when bought in the big auction houses.
