The Northern Pacific Depot in Esmond, North Dakota served as the western terminus and "Terminal City" for the Northern Pacific Railway's Oberon branch line.History and DetailsFounding: The townsite was founded in 1901, originally named Rhodes, before the post office was established as Esmond on August 5, 1901.Naming: The town and station were named after Henry Esmond, the hero in a novel by British author William Makepeace Thackeray.The Depot: A two-story depot building was active during the early 20th century alongside local grain elevators at Milepost 27.5.
