The Michigan Central Railroad Depot in
Athens, Michigan was a key local transportation hub located on the Michigan
Central’s branch line running from Battle Creek, Michigan, down to Goshen,
Indiana. The original depot structure was erected as early as 1876 to serve the
village of Athens in southwest Calhoun County. Historically, a prominent train
that passed through this station was locally referred to by residents as the
"Holy Land Flyer".
