WHY COLLECTORS WANT THIS ONE
Murray Hill was a US budget mail-order label, and this is a licensing compilation rather than a recorded cycle: four different conductors and orchestras assembled to make a complete Mahler that no one actually recorded as a set. The performances are conducted by Sir Adrian Boult, Rudolf Schwarz, Leopold Ludwig and Dimitri Mitropoulos, sourced from the Everest/Vanguard family of masters. Its real interest is historical - it was one of the first affordable ways an American collector could own all nine symphonies, and the Boult and Mitropoulos performances are well regarded. To be clear, this is a budget-label set and it is common.
