Unlike the more common vintage brass dice that figure simple stamped pits or hollow drilled holes this masterfully engineered set utilises a premium flush-inlay technique. Each block is cut from heavy solid brass, milled, precision-drilled and seamlessly inlaid with contrasting, cut stainless steel rods for the pips.

The aesthetic contrast between the warm golden brass and the bright silver-toned stainless steel inserts gives this set an elite architectural presence.

Being hand- made, each die has  a fabricated variance with the other as can be seen in the location of the pips, so, they are not identical. Each die has varying degrees of patination in comparison to the others and on each face, perhaps according to the exposure to light or of cleaning over the years but this simply adds to their beauty due to the varying light reflection.

The dice are in excellent vintage condition ( likely 1960’s /1970’s ) with no deep gouges or structural damage and the inlaid pips remain rust-free (  indicating the use of high grade, high quality stainless steel ) and perfectly flush with the brass faces.

There are a few minor dings to the edges and scratches, as can be seen in the photographs, but this would be expected of pieces of this age.

The dice remain untouched and as I found them and they are wonderfully tactile objects that can be used for many purposes, if not as a work of art and statement piece. Either way, they will be magnificent in any location and for any purpose.

It has been suggested that due to the construction method and sharp edges that their most likely origin is Germany or Scandinavia and that these were Brutalist high end office or desk accessories/ bookends. There are no stamp marks but apparently this was usual for high-end pieces sold in high-end shops, as the shop affixed a paper label on the bottom with their name on it !?
