ORIGINAL c. 1904–1905 GENERAL KUROPATKIN RUSSIAN POSTCARD

Original antique Russian postcard dating approximately to c. 1904–1905, featuring a formal portrait of GENERAL ALEXEI NIKOLAEVICH KUROPATKIN, one of the best-known senior Russian military commanders of the RUSSO-JAPANESE WAR.

Kuropatkin is shown in full Imperial Russian military dress with large epaulettes, sash and an impressive group of ORDERS, MEDALS AND DECORATIONS across his chest.

Below the portrait is a printed facsimile signature:

RUSSO-JAPANESE WAR

General Kuropatkin was one of the principal commanders of Russian forces during the war with Japan in 1904–1905, making portraits of him particularly associated with this important period of Imperial Russian military history.

The reverse carries the early Russian postcard heading:

“ВСЕМИРНЫЙ ПОЧТОВЫЙ СОЮЗ. — РОССИЯ.”
“UNION POSTALE UNIVERSELLE. — RUSSIE.”
“ОТКРЫТОЕ ПИСЬМО. — CARTE POSTALE.”

This early postal design is consistent with the beginning of the 20th century.
