ORIGINAL c. 1948–1951 SOVIET STALIN AVIATION PROPAGANDA LEAFLET
Original early postwar Soviet PROPAGANDA LEAFLET / POLITICAL EPHEMERA promoting Soviet aviation and encouraging workers, Komsomol members and young people to acquire aviation knowledge and join DOSAV – THE VOLUNTARY SOCIETY FOR ASSISTANCE TO AVIATION.
This is an original SOVIET PROPAGANDA LEAFLET / FLYER, not a postcard.
The front prominently features a quotation attributed to JOSEPH STALIN:
“Советская Авиация должна летать выше всех, быстрее всех и дальше всех.”
Translation:
“Soviet aviation must fly higher than all, faster than all, and farther than all.”
Below is the main propaganda appeal:
“ТРУДЯЩИЕСЯ!
КОМСОМОЛЬЦЫ И МОЛОДЕЖЬ!
Крепите мощь Сталинской Авиации.
Овладевайте авиационными знаниями.
ВСТУПАЙТЕ В РЯДЫ ДОСАВ!”
Translation:
“WORKERS!
KOMSOMOL MEMBERS AND YOUTH!
Strengthen the power of Stalinist Aviation.
Acquire aviation knowledge.
JOIN THE RANKS OF DOSAV!”
DOSAV – SOVIET AVIATION ORGANIZATION
DOSAV – Добровольное Общество Содействия Авиации – was the Soviet Voluntary Society for Assistance to Aviation.
The organization and wording allow this surviving leaflet to be approximately dated to the EARLY POSTWAR STALIN ERA, c. 1948–1951.
PATRIOTIC SONG ON REVERSE
The reverse is entirely printed with the lyrics of a Soviet patriotic song:
“Гражданин патриот, нас отчизна зовёт”
“Citizen-Patriot, Our Motherland Calls Us”
The lyrics provide particularly interesting postwar historical context, referring to the recent destruction and human losses:
“Мы еще не забыли тяжелых утрат,
Не остыл еще пепел руин...”
The song calls upon Soviet citizens to strengthen:
“Авиацию, флот
И Советскую Армию нашу!”
It also contains characteristic Stalin-era political language referring to Stalinist friendship, the Bolshevik truth, the Soviet Army and defense of the Motherland.
The combination of the STALIN QUOTATION, AVIATION RECRUITMENT APPEAL, DOSAV, KOMSOMOL / SOVIET YOUTH and PATRIOTIC SONG LYRICS makes this an unusual surviving example of early postwar Soviet political ephemera.
