ASIA - an extremely rare, original antique hand-coloured engraved map of Asia by Giovanni Magini, published by Matthias Quad in Basel, c.1596. This double-page map from an atlas is in very good, clean condition, with attractive hand-colouring throughout. The original colours remain bright, vibrant, and appealing, as shown. The map depicts the whole of Asia, including China, India, Tartaria, Moscovia, Arabia, Taprobana, Borneo, oddly shaped Japan and Insula S. Laurentii for Madagascar, and part Africa. The verso is blank and clean. It measures approximately 12½ x 9 inches (32 x 22 cm) and will be dispatched rolled in a short postal tube. A beautiful example of this early map of Asia from the reign of Elizabeth I by Giovanni Magini, for collectors.
