K-Tel practically invented the TV-advertised hits compilation, and TU 220 is one of the early entries in that long-running series: twenty original hits by the original artists, crammed onto a single LP and sold hard on late-night television. Collectors go after K-Tel TU-series records for two reasons. First, the track selections are a perfect time capsule of what was actually on the radio that year, not what history decided mattered later. Second, K-Tel famously time-compressed tracks to fit them all on, which gives these pressings a slightly odd, punchy character that fans of the format genuinely enjoy. Note this is the TU 220 volume specifically - the TU series ran to many different numbers with completely different track listings.
