Jean-Loup DELAROCHE – Vierge couronnée à l’Enfant, d’après un modèle de l’école flamande.
Sculpture en pierre reconstituée polychrome représentant la Vierge couronnée portant l’Enfant Jésus. Le traitement de la figure, des drapés et de la polychromie reprend les codes de la statuaire religieuse médiévale et s’inspire d’un modèle de l’école flamande.
La couronne désigne Marie dans sa dimension de Reine du Ciel (Regina Caeli). Cette iconographie, largement développée dans l’art médiéval, souligne à la fois sa dignité royale et son rôle de mère du Christ.
Signée « Delaroche » sur le côté de la base.

Note : Jean-Loup Delaroche, artiste originaire de Loudun, crée son atelier en 1971. Il travaille d’abord la sculpture sur bois peint avant de développer une production de sculptures en pierre reconstituée inspirées notamment de l’iconographie médiévale : saints, chevaliers, gargouilles, dragons et figures monastiques. Ses sculptures sont réalisées à partir de modèles originaux en argile dont il confectionne lui-même les moules avant le tirage en pierre reconstituée.
Le présent modèle s’inscrit dans cette réinterprétation de la statuaire médiévale. La Vierge couronnée à l’Enfant constitue un thème majeur de l’iconographie mariale médiévale. La référence à l’école flamande doit ici être comprise comme une indication du modèle ou de la tradition stylistique dont s’inspire la sculpture de Jean-Loup Delaroche, et non comme une attribution de l’œuvre elle-même.

Jean-Loup DELAROCHE – Crowned Virgin with Child, after a model from the Flemish school.
Polychrome reconstituted stone sculpture depicting the crowned Virgin holding the Infant Jesus. The treatment of the figure, the drapery and the polychromy follows the codes of medieval religious statuary and is inspired by a model from the Flemish school.
The crown identifies Mary in her dimension as Queen of Heaven (Regina Caeli). This iconography, widely developed in medieval art, highlights both her royal dignity and her role as the mother of Christ.
Signed "Delaroche" on the side of the base.

Condition: Good condition, rubbing especially on the reverse.
Note: Jean-Loup Delaroche, an artist from Loudun, established his workshop in 1971. He first worked in painted wood sculpture before developing a production of reconstituted stone sculptures inspired in particular by medieval iconography: saints, knights, gargoyles, dragons and monastic figures. His sculptures are made from original clay models from which he makes his own molds before casting in reconstituted stone.
The present model is part of this reinterpretation of medieval statuary. The Crowned Virgin with Child is a major theme in medieval Marian iconography. The reference to the Flemish school here should be understood as an indication of the model or stylistic tradition that inspired Jean-Loup Delaroche's sculpture, and not as an attribution of the work itself.
