CONDITION:

NICE ORIGINAL PAINT ON EACH - DRAKE HAS WHAT APPEARS TO BE SOME VARNISH UNDER THE TAIL AND ON THE LEFT ANTERIOR LOWER SIDE - DRAKE ALSO HAS SOME KIND OF RUBBERIZED MATERIAL IN THE HEAD SCREW HOLE 


ACCORDING TO BERNIE GATES IN HIS BOOK ONTARIO DECOYS II, ADAM B. YEARWOOD CAME FROM A FAMILY OF TEN AND BEGAN HUNTING WITH HIS FATHER TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR THEIR FAMILY. HE BEGAN CARVING AT A YOUNG AGE, BELIEVING HE COULD CARVE BETTER BIRDS THAN HIS DAD MADE (1). 


LATER, WHILE WORKING AS A HYDRO LINEMAN IN ONTARIO, HE GAINED ACCESS TO DISCARDED HYDRO POLES. THIS PROVIDED HIM WITH THE WOOD HE NEEDED FOR HIS DECOYS (1). 


ALONG WITH “EXCELLENTLY PROFILED HEADS (1)”, “CHIP CARVING AND SOMETIMES RELIEF WING CARVING AND CROSSED WING TIPS (1)”, HE WOULD OFTEN CARVE TWO OR MORE ¾” HOLES AND HIS INITIALS “A.B.Y.” (1).
