Antique carved cowrie shell souvenir from Yevpatoria, Crimea, dated 1899.

An unusual late 19th-century souvenir made from a large natural cowrie shell. The front has a hand-carved Cyrillic inscription:
“ЕВПАТОРІЯ 1899 г.”
(Yevpatoria, 1899)

The shell is additionally decorated with an ornamental monogram/design above the inscription.

An interesting surviving piece of Russian Empire-era Crimea travel and souvenir history, dating to the final years of the 19th century.
