An exceptional, museum-quality piece of British interwar military and athletic heritage.
This genuine 1922 velvet presentation honour cap (or sports cap) was bespoke-crafted by the highly prestigious London military outfitters J.G. Plumb & Co. of Westminster.
Presentation caps of this era were traditionally awarded to officers who represented their regiment or brigade in high-level athletic competitions (such as rugby, cricket, or football).
Given the prominent insignia and the specialised military tailor, this piece is an extraordinary artifact connected to a specific officer within the Royal Artillery.
This cap is in excellent antique condition, especially considering it is over a century old.
The velvet pile remains thick and intact, showing beautiful natural lustre with minor, age-appropriate surface compression and light fading that adds to its authentic character.
The gold bullion wire embroidery remains bright, structurally sound, and securely attached, with zero unravelling.
The original silk/satin interior lining and stitched sweatband are completely intact, showing only light period wear.
The tailor's label remains crisp and perfectly legible and features the original period handwritten ink inscription identifying the recipient: "P. Reed, Esqr."
Size is approx. UK 6 3/4 (55cms).
