Moving on and parting with some great items. Offered for bids is a Rare Antique Carved Wood Santos from Puerto Rico. A Trinidad Trinity Santos de Palo composed as tradition requires of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit represented by the Dove. The Trinidad Trinity Santos measures with base 8 3/16 inches long, 1 7/8 inches wide and 8 1/4 inches height. The individual Santo Carvings measure, left 6 1/4 inches height 1.16 inches thick and 1.7 inches wide at the base, the dove measures 2.77 inches long. 83 inches thick and 1.11 inches wide, right Santos 6 3/8 inches in height, 1.23 inches thick at the base and 1.86 inches wide at the base. Santos carvings were covered in gesso and painted when carved many years ago. With wood expanding and contracting through the ages the surface gesso has cracked, causing loss of paint and gesso as expected with age and use, please see pics. This only attest to its age, authenticity and religious use. The Santos are affixed with nails that with wood age shrinkage are loose, Santos do not come off the base but you can turn them around and wood piece that hold the dove can move side to side. Hands are missing which is common in antique Puerto Rico Santos and do not detract on the aesthetic value of this great piece of Puertorrican Folkloric Religious Art.
