We recently purchased a collection of costumer and costume accessories that has been passed down generations from sisters Lady Susan Reeve and Lady Jane Sherard. Please see the two antique reticule handbags, each retailed individually in store. We also have two pairs of their silk mittens to add soon.

This baby robe or christening gown came from this collection. To the inside of the dress in old ink script is the name JANE and a number 2. The gown is beautifully made from very fine, diaphanous cotton lawn with cotton bobbin lace trimmings and one cotton covered Dorset cuff button remaining. Three pintuck seam details to the base. The stitching is very neat as one would expect from this era of needlework. How lovely to know the original owner/wearer of this dress.

The Right Honourable Lady Jane Sherard who was born in 1799 and died in 1856. Jane never married and lived with her sister Susan for much of her life.

Size: 39 inch (99 cm) long. Chest ruched, approx 8 inch (20 cm)

Condition: The dress is a soft white in colour, and very soft and tactile. Very slight discolouring around the neck/chest area. There are a few areas of light foxing around the bottom 1/5th of the dress, seen when held to the light. One noticeable fox mark to the front lower half. One dark fox mark to the rear tie ribbon. A tiny hole in the fabric of one arm.
