Contains Horatius, The Battle of the Lake Regillus, The Lay of Virginia, The Prophecy of Capys, plus Ivry, The Armada: A Fragment, and The Battle of Naseby. A wonderful piece of school-book social history — this copy carries a 1928 ownership inscription from a student at Central School, Falconer Street, Fitzroy North (Melbourne), with extensive contemporary pencil annotations and marginal notes throughout the text, particularly dense on The Battle of Naseby.

Original tan paper-covered boards, spine and covers lightly worn and toned with some edge rubbing and light corner wear; a few small closed tears/creases to spine cloth. Internally the text block is clean and complete, with light tanning and scattered spotting typical of age. Ownership inscription in ink to front free endpaper: "John B. Howard, Central School, Falconer St, Fitzroy Nth. 1928." Extensive contemporary pencil annotations and underlining throughout, especially on The Battle of Naseby pages — an appealing example of period student engagement with the text.
