McBeth Tartan * Circa 1870

This little antique tartan ware needle box was made to hold paper needle packets. It is octagonal in shape and contains a packet of Franklin's needles. It also came with a reel of silk thread. It was probably made by the W. & A. Smith Co. of Mauchline Scotland.

The condition is outstanding. It has a glossy, varnished surface. The tartan has a few minor surface dings, but no tears or loss.  It slides closed securely. The tartan is gold stamped with the name "McBeth" at the front. It measures 2 1/8" high x 1 1/8" wide x 7/8" deep.

Despite the name, this organization is for people who collect needlework tools And thimbles. It's the largest collector’s group in the world focusing on these wonderful little pieces of history.
