Antique Black Floral Mauchline Ware Thimble Case Scottish * 1893 Sterling Silver Thimble This
little Mauchline ware case is covered with black lacquer and has a floral print on the top. It holds a sterling silver thimble
in the fitted interior. It
was made by one of the box manufacturers in Mauchline, Scotland. The bottom is lined
with the original velvet. The
tall thimble has a narrow band and is embossed all over with daisy
style knurling. It has the English sterling hallmarks for Chester 1893 and the
maker's mark for Henry Griffith & Sons. The
condition is excellent, crisp and in round with no holes, dents or
repairs. It is about
an American size 9-10 (16.2 mm diameter opening). The case is in excellent
condition with no chips or cracks and hardly a ding. The varnish is
perfect and it has the original paper on the bottom. It closes with a flip-up C clasp. It measures
1 3/8" x 1" and is 1 1/2" high.
