* English Vintage Tool *
* 1940's Elwell Garden Spade No 2 *
WW2 King George VI 1944
The condition is excellent as pictured, it was recently cleaned, oiled and restored for protection. Vintage English steel, much stronger than on the newer tools.
This one is a medium sized spade, suitable possibly for general garden or allotment use. 99cm long with a 17cm wide head and 27 cm cut depth.
I believe this was made by the Elwell factory, but product branding was suspended during war production to help protect certain industries from being bombing targets. I have had almost identical Elwell models in the past. This one has been stamped King George V1 1944, the first time I have seen this. The D-Handle has been carved out of a single piece of solid oak. It's been cleaned up and restored by my father who was a professional tool maker for 45 years, his ethos is that these quality tools should be used again for their original purpose.
Has strapped design with incorporated metal foot pegs. Very rare item.
You will receive the exact item as pictured.
