Original British Transport Commission/British Railways Civil Engineering Handbook No. 3, titled Railway Curves.
Issued in July 1962 under British Railways reference BR 12800.
The handbook provides technical rules for determining the speed of trains on curves in relation to radius, cant and length of transition. It was produced as a specialist working reference for railway civil-engineering and permanent-way staff.
Importantly, the handbook retains the large original multi-panel folding calculation chart shown in the photographs. The chart includes detailed graphs and scales relating to cant, deficiency of cant, maximum speed, equilibrium speed, curve radius and transition length.
The folding chart is stored folded inside the handbook and will remain with it for the sale.

• Handwritten former-owner name or inscription on the upper front cover
• Cover has rubbing, scuffs, creases, scratches, small stains and handling marks
• Corners and edges show wear, curling and softening
• Some discolouration and age-related surface marking is present
• Internal pages show natural toning, creasing and handling wear
• Binding area has visible wear consistent with age and use
• Large original folding calculation chart is included
• Chart has numerous original fold lines, creases, handling wear and minor edge irregularities
• Fine printed graphs, scales and diagrams remain readable in the areas inspected
• No cleaning, restoration or repairs have been undertaken
• The handbook has not been checked line by line, so occasional annotations, marks or other age-related imperfections may be present
