The Washington Watch Company had only a brief and limited period of actual production in the early 1870s, during which it is believed that roughly 50 movements were made.
As a result, nearly all movements bearing the “Washington Watch Co.” signature are private-label examples rather than true in-house manufacture. These were produced by the Illinois Watch Company for Montgomery Ward & Co., one of the largest American retailers of the time.
Such movements were commonly sold under a range of distinctive names, including Liberty Bell, Lafayette, Potomac, Senate, Monroe, and Army & Navy.
Offered here is a high-grade vintage Washington Watch Co. private label pocket watch, an American timepiece dating to 1905. This example is often referred to as a “salesman sample,” featuring a display-style case that showcases the movement.
This open-face, manual-wind pocket watch is powered by an Illinois Watch Co. Bunn Special movement, size 18s, model 6, featuring 24 jewels. It is lever-set and railroad grade, adjusted to six positions and temperature.
It features a classic white enamel dial with bold black Arabic numerals, an outer minute track, blued steel hands, and a sub-seconds register at 6 o’clock.
Housed in a 55mm round gold-tone case with a factory display-style (exhibition) caseback, and is fitted with a traditional bow and crown.
It has been fully inspected and authenticated by our in-house watchmaker and is running accurately.

Vintage watches often run smaller than today’s standards. Men’s wristwatches typically measure between 29–36mm (excluding the crown), while women’s models—especially from the early 1900s to the 1970s—can be considerably smaller. We encourage you to review the measurements provided and reach out with any sizing questions.
Our collection features timepieces that are 20 to 100 years old. Naturally, they may show honest signs of age such as light scratches, patina, or worn straps—features that often add to their unique character and charm. Unless noted as recently serviced, vintage watches may eventually require routine maintenance to keep accurate time. If you’re looking for quartz-level precision, a modern watch may be a better fit.
