Antique Brass Needle Case / Chatelaine

Chinese * Circa 1900

This Chinese needle case is solid brass and is beautifully hand engraved on both sides. The engravings depict exotic birds with foliage backgrounds. The edges are engraved with floral designs. The top slides up the cord to give access to the needle case.  Pulling on the bottom cord pulls the needle case back into its sheath. A variety of beads are strung on the cord.

The ring at the top would have slipped over a toggle or button on the owner's robe. It's in excellent condition with no dents, repairs or other damage.  The design is worn smooth, but the brass is so solid, I doubt it could dent. The case measures 3" long and the entire piece (cords included) is 8" long. Everything works very well.
