Up for sale is an authentic, handwritten New Year greeting card from Thomas Hughes Kelly, the prominent Irish-American bibliophile, historical collector, and patron of Irish nationalism.

Historical Context:

Thomas Hughes Kelly was the son of the wealthy New York banker Eugene Kelly. He spent much of his later life in Paris and was a passionate supporter of Irish independence, maintaining close ties with Éamon de Valera and the Irish cultural revival. His massive library of rare Irish books was later acquired by the National Library of Ireland.


This card is a beautiful piece of social history linking the Irish diaspora in Paris to the roaring twenties.
