Description
Gorgeous antique small oil painting on copper that was sourced in Sorrento Italy. I dismantled it from it's frame to determine it is a painting on copper and signed as well Van Olben or Van Ol something. The frame itself is beautiful featuring velvet exterior trim with center bronze Rococo form metal trim. The painting is under thin glass. The frame measures 7" by 7.5" and about 1" deep and has a stand for setting on flat surface. The painting on copper measures 3.75" by 4.25". The scene is an Italianate landscape with figures and a stone tower. Architectural ruins or tower along a rocky outcrop with travelers and animals along a path. Further information pertaining to possible origin of the style of painting indicates 19th/20th Century decorative European study in the Dutch or German romantic landscape tradition. The copper painting is in very good condition with no damage, well preserved under glass. I will re-install the small old nails so it sits back in place within the frame. The velvet frame has some dulling from age of the fabric. The bronze Rococo design has a few small holes in the decorative relief pattern at the top 2 corners of the frame. See images.
