AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 1GHz Core Edition GPU - Faulty / Possible Repair

Description:

"Selling an AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 graphics card.

Please note: This card is broken/faulty and is being sold strictly as-is for spares or possible repair.

·         The Original Issue: The card powers on, displays signal, but it shows artifacting on the windows desktop, crashes when attempting to install driver software. (See Photos)

·         Inspection / Maintenance: Carefully removed Cooler and Fan Assembly, remove old thermal paste and thermal pads, replaced thermal paste with Arctic MX-4 and pads with Arctic TP-3. (See Photos)

·         Testing:  The card powers on, displays a signal, No artifacting in windows desktop, will let you install the driver software. (See Photo – GPU-Z)

·          Benchmarking: FurMark crashed within a 60 seconds and Unigine Valley DX11 didn’t fair much better, also it didn’t like running any 3D Mark benchmarks.  This is having the Fans set to Auto.  Less demanding DX9 seemed to work well, very odd. (See Photos)

·         Conclusion: This happens when temps rise to above 60 C and you are greeted with a Blue screen of Death.   This is odd behaviour as these cards can go up to 80-90 C without issues.  Maybe this is power delivery issue or temperature.  Also I noticed one of fans is admitting some slight noise, bearing maybe.

·         The By-Pass: Setting the Fans manually to 50% (Somewhat Noisy) I did manage to run and complete Unigine Valley Benchmark DX11 both in 720p and 900p.  On side note I did install and run the Original Crysis game. (See Photos)

·         Cosmetic Condition: The card has been used, shows minor signs of wear and is missing its original box and accessories.

·         What's Included: Graphics card only.

Please feel free to contact me about any questions you may have on the above.

I will pack the Graphics Card in bubble wrap within a cardboard box with brown paper.

Thanks for looking.
